da betobet: Leeds United will look to maintain their spot in the Championship play-off positions when they host Aston Villa at Elland Road on Saturday evening.
da bet vitoria: It is the first league meeting between the two sides since 2004, and Garry Monk’s men come into the huge clash in good spirits having won four of their last five league games, including a 2-1 win at struggling Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United last weekend.
While they haven’t played each other in the last 12 years, the duo have shared many brilliant goals in their fixtures against each other since the inauguration of the Premier League in 1992.
Of course, things have changed since some of those meetings in the late 90s/early 2000s when both clubs were challenging at the top end of the Premier League table, with the duo now fighting for promotion back to the promised land.
Here are Leeds’ five best goals vs Aston Villa…
Mark Viduka (April 13, 2002)
The Australian was prolific during his time with Leeds, and one of his better goals came in a 1-0 win against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Looking to boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League, United midfielder David Batty took advantage of Steve Staunton’s poor clearance and fed the ball into Viduka, who produced a brilliant turn to get away from Mark Delaney and slotted it past Peter Enckelman in the Villa goal. Stylish.
Harry Kewell (January 3, 2000)
Leeds were top of the Premier League going into their home match with Aston Villa at Elland Road, but they were to suffer a surprise defeat despite a stunning goal from Kewell.
Gareth Southgate was the hero for the visitors but his brace sandwiched a terrific strike from the Australian, who chested down a clearance before taking another touch and sending an unstoppable half-volley into the far corner of the net.
What an outstanding strike!
Erik Bakke (January 30, 2000)
Bakke wasn’t known for his goalscoring, but he finished off a special move by his team in their 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Villa in January 2000.
The ball was switched across to the left-hand side where Ian Harte back-heeled it into the path of Stephen McPhail.
The midfielder then sent in an inch-perfect cross towards the penalty spot where Bakke was waiting to bullet home a header into the net.
Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink (February 17, 1999)
The striker was known for scoring brilliant goals and one of those great strikes came against a Villa side who harboured hopes of winning the Premier League title in 1999.
The Dutchman netted a brace as Leeds picked up a 2-1 success at Villa Park, with the second of those being a brilliant 25-yard free-kick.
Hasselbaink took advantage of Gareth Southgate’s foul on Willem Korsten to curl a brilliant set piece into the corner to give United all three points.
Ian Harte vs Aston Villa (May 11, 2003)
In what was Peter Reid’s first game in charge of the club, the former Republic of Ireland international was recalled to the side for the visit of Aston Villa and he took just seven minutes to make his mark on the match.
When Mark Viduka was tripped outside the box – around 20 yards out – there was only one man who was going to step up and take the free-kick, and Harte duly curled the ball brilliantly past Stefan Postma in the Villa goal.
