da 888: Despite spending several large sums of cash on a series of over-priced players throughout the course of the previous summer transfer window, Manchester United nonetheless look set on getting the chequebook out once again ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, regardless of whether or not Louis van Gaal ultimately remains in charge of the Red Devils by the start of next season.
da jogodeouro: Yet whilst the once dominant Premier League club clearly need to bolster their current striking department before the summer transfer period eventually comes to a close, the Old Trafford hierarchy have seemingly set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s in-form Turkish centre-back Omer Toprak, with a view to snapping up the 26-year-old.
So then, as the Red Devils hardly pay witness to the most successful transfer record in the English top-flight these days: would Toprak really serve to improve this current Man United XI ahead of the new campaign, or should the Old Trafford boardroom staff turn their attention elsewhere this summer?
Well, even though the Old Trafford faithful will be expecting only the grandest and most high profile names to be arriving at their club throughout the duration of the upcoming summer transfer window, maybe this latest defensive target would actually represent a rather shrewd capture for the Red Devils.
Although the Turkish international isn’t exactly the most revered centre-back currently operating in European footballing, the former FC Freiburg man has nonetheless drawn praise from all quarters in Germany this term, and could well become the subject of some serious summer interest.
When it comes to reading the game in a composed and efficient manner for the entire 90 minutes, putting his body on the line right when his fellow team-mates seem to need it most and simply turning out a consistent level of performance, Toprak certainly hasn’t disappointed his current employers this season.
Manchester United’s reported interest in the defender therefore comes as little shock in the cold light of day, for even though certain Red Devils defenders have performed admirably of late, Van Gaal’s current back-line may need updating if his side are to really push on next season.
Both Michael Carrick and Daley Blind fail to represent ideal centre-back options with all things considered, and whilst the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are often given more than their fair share of plaudits, neither player ultimately arrives without their shortcomings at the end of the day.
Although Bayer Leverkusen are quite understandably keen on keeping hold of their star defensive performer ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, the money and seemingly immovable sense of prestige on offer at Manchester United could play a decisive role for the player in question this summer.
Whilst the likes of Marquinhos, Raphael Varane and Aymeric Laporte have all been linked with a big-money moves recently, a player of Toprak’s impressive, albeit understated ability, could nonetheless be just what Man United need.
So then, whilst his may not be the most captivating name currently circulating within the Premier League transfer rumour mill, the Red Devils should look to seal the capture of Omer Toprak before any of their equally ambitious English counterparts beat them to his signature.
