da bwin: With the current Premier League campaign about to come to a close, Arsenal are set to book their place in the Champions League, but are once again missing out on the title.
da realsbet: It seems that manager Arsene Wenger is expected to make lots of changes to his squad during the summer window, but that isn’t always the case.
His main piece of transfer business before the current season saw Petr Cech join from Chelsea, and that was about it, an outcome that fans will surely want changed this time around.
However, when it comes to new additions, existing players who failed to make the cut are likely to be offload in order to clear up room in the squad as well as wages for incoming ones.
We all know that the Gunners are set for a number of departures in the coming moinths, with Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky, and Mathieu Flamini all ready to leave once their contracts expire next month.
With that in mind, here are another five players Arsenal need to ditch this summer…
Theo Walcott
Position: Forward
Age: 27
Theo Walcott has continued to struggle despite previously admitting he wants to play as a centre forward, and isn’t likely to be given another chance on the wings. With Arsenal still unable to sign a world class striker, any additions this summer could see the attacker lose his place completely.
Walcott has only managed to register 15 Premier League starts this season, featuring another 12 times from the bench, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
His potential sale would surely free up some room, both financially and on the team sheet.
Joel Campbell
Position: Forward
Age: 23
Joel Campbell should finally be granted an exit after years of being promised a regular role by manager Arsene Wenger. He has constantly been linked with a move away from the Emirates, but the club keeps trying to persuade him to stay put.
At 23, Campbell has struggled to impress when given the opportunity, with his limited playing time not likely to aid his development. The Gunners should consider cashing in on his services when they have a chance.
Jack Wilshere
Position: Midfielder
Age: 24
Jack Wilshere has been unable to shake off a host of injury problems over the past few years, with this season being no exception. He only made his first appearance of the campaign late last month, and he has registered just six minutes of Premier League football since August.
He could even be given a chance to feature at Euro 2016 for England this summer, but another injury during the tournament could force Arsenal to finally part ways with the midfielder, as they surely don’t want another Abou Diaby case on their hands.
Olivier Giroud
Position: Striker
Age: 29
Olivier Giroud has been criticised by the fans over the past few seasons, despite the fact that he continues to score for his side. With 12 league goals to his name this term, the Gunners are still expected to add a world class striker into their ranks this summer.
He is being used on a rotation basis with Theo Walcott, but should manager Arsene Wenger sign another forward, the Frenchman is expected to spend a lot of time on the bench. Danny Welbeck is also impressing since his return from injury and looks to have already overtaken Giroud in the pecking order.
Santi Cazorla
Position: Midfielder
Age: 31
Santi Cazorla is another player that has struggled with injuries this season and has not featured since late November.
At 31, he could struggle to win back his regular role under manager Arsene Wenger following the emergence of Francis Coquelin and January signing Mohamed Elneny.
Cazorla has now returned to full training, but with only two matches left before the end of the campaign, it might be a little too late for him to prove his worth to Wenger before the transfer window reopens.
Arsenal are also ready to bring in another midfielder this summer following speculation that Arteta, Flamini, and Rosicky are set to depart, jeopardising his place even more.
