Bayern were actively pursuing a move for Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and were ready to compete in a three-way transfer race along with Manchester City and Liverpool. However, the club have now conceded that they are no longer a contender as club president Hainer admitted that the midfielder is likely to join Liverpool.

Speaking to , the Bayern chief said: "Max Eberl has informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool. I can't say how things will continue with Leverkusen."

Earlier on Saturday, Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg reported that Leverkusen are now working to complete the player's transfer swiftly and are waiting for the Reds' first offer. The former German champions reportedly want a transfer fee and a player from the English club, as they are looking to add a new goalkeeper, a defender, a striker and a potential replacement for Wirtz.
