Arsenal are advancing their discussions with Sporting CP to sign the Swedish goal machine after being put off by RB Leipzig's demands for Benjamin Sesko. Gyokeres has made it clear throughout the summer that he is desperate to sign for the Gunners and is doing all he can to seal a switch to north London. As well as reportedly refusing to return to Lisbon for pre-season, the that the forward is even willing to forgo €2 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) from his salary to help facilitate negotiations between the two clubs.

The Gunners and Sporting have been in negotiations over Gyokeres for a number of months, with no agreement reached over a fee for the player as of yet. The forward was left furious after the Portuguese side insisted that only an offer of €80 million (£67.5m) would be enough to persuade them to part with their key player, but it appears Arsenal and Sporting are closing in on an agreement. With the Swede also willing to let go of part of his salary to join Arsenal, negotiations will likely accelerate towards a conclusion.

Since joining from Coventry, Gyokeres has scored 68 goals and registered 17 assists in just 66 Liga Portugal games for Sporting. He has added a further six goals in eight Champions League appearances for the club. Despite agitating for a move, Gyokeres' impact at Sporting will not be forgotten quickly by its fans.

Gyokeres is likely to become an Arsenal player soon and will join the club for their pre-season. He could join new signings Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi for games against AC Milan, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur in Asia and may well be joined by yet more arrivals at Arsenal. Gyokeres will already be dreaming of making his Premier League debut for Arsenal against his former boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
