da betsul: Germany made it four wins on the spin Euro 2012 comfortably seeing off Greece to sail into the semi finals and set up a possible encounter with England.
da pinup bet: Joachim Low’s side maintained their 100% record in Poland and Ukraine producing a performance of imperious dominance, sweeping the unfortunate Greeks aside without mercy in the quarter final clash. It took 39 minutes for Germany to make the breakthrough when Phillipe Lahm fired in from 25-yards. Fernando Santo’s men improved in the second half equalising through Georgios Samaras but Sami Khedira, Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus scored to put the game beyond doubt before Dimitris Salpingidis struck a late penalty as the Euro 2004 winners bowed out of the tournament.
It proved to be a frustrating first half for Germany as they wasted a host of early chances they could have come to regret. Miroslav Klose, winning his 120th cap for the national side, had an early goal ruled out for offside after pouncing on goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis’ fumble. Greece stood firm from then on but just couldn’t get near Low’s men as they glided around the stodgy Gdansk field with the swagger of champions elect. Klose then failed to connect with a Reus cross before Khedira had Sifakis on his toes with his goal bound effort.
As the missed opportunities started to rack up the nerves also visibly rose before captain Lahm allowed them to breathe a huge sigh of relief six minutes before the break. The Bayern Munich full back certainly picks his occasions to score, and there was no stopping his seventh goal for his country, cutting in from the left and smashing a spectacular effort past Sifakis.
Germany knew their advantage should have been greater and 10 minutes after the restart they were made to pay as Samaras bundled Dimitris Salpingidis’ precise low cross past Manuel Neuer after being played in down the right by Theofanis Gekas. Parity didn’t last for long though as Jerome Boateng’s pinged a ball into the penalty area that the onrushing Khedira who timed his run perfectly to emphatically volley home.
Klose then wrapped up Germany’s place in the last four heading home Meszut Ozil’s free kick with Reus applying the gloss 16 minutes from time with a stinging strike from inside the area that hit the underside of the bar before going in. Greece had the last laugh though as Salpingidis scored from the spot after Boateng was harshly punished for handball.
