da wazamba: Footballers with weird and not-so-wonderful hair is hardly a new phenomenon. The 1980s saw some mad perms and seedy moustaches, the 1990s saw Carlos Valderrama, Abel Xavier and Rigobert Song, and the 2000s saw David Beckham experimenting much to the delight of tabloid news outlets.
da betsul: But the 2010s has seen some new fashion disasters, and Paul Pogba has been at the centre of quite a few of them, really. Like this suit he sported at the Ballon d’Or, with a haircut to match!
But now his hair has gone one step further. To add to the star and leopard print that he has displayed on the side of his head in the months gone by, Paul Pogba has now managed to get a full-on pokeball onto the side of his head.
It’s an outrageous haircut for an outrageous footballer, but more than just being a mad barnet, it’s paying homage to a cartoon we all adored when we were kids.
Perhaps it’s the generation Pogba pertains to. Perhaps it’s the fact that the generation that grew up watching the awesomeness of the Japanese cartoon that makes this haircut so special and yet so terrible. But it begs one interesting question.
How long will it be before the big corporations decide to get in on the action? How long will it be before someone decides to sponsor footballers’ haircuts? Will Nike decide that they’d like their sponsored athlete to wear a big tick on the side of his head, replacing the pokeball? We could soon be entering a brave new world of corporatism, and it’s all down to Paul Pogba!
