Having smashed Watford to smithereens last time out in the Premier League, Manchester City make the trip to Goodison Park on Saturday to take on Marco Silva’s Everton. The Citizens already find themselves five points behind the Toffees’ Merseyside rivals Liverpool, and there really is very little room for error.
Pep Guardiola’s men take on an Everton side not in the greatest of form. Whilst they edged past Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, they have lost their last two league games against Sheffield United and Bournemouth respectively.
If City are to keep their juggernaut moving forward at pace, then Sergio Aguero will likely have to win his individual battle against Toffees centre-back Yerry Mina. In a duel born out of South America, City’s record goal-scorer will have to bring all his guile and cuteness, as he goes up against a towering colossus.
And judging by their early season stats, Aguero just looks to have the edge going into the contest.
The Argentina international has started the current campaign in blistering fashion, firing in eight goals from just six Premier League games. Perhaps just as impressive is the fact he has scored in every single one of those matches, and may well be eyeing Jamie Vardy’s record of netting in 11 consecutive fixtures.
Aside from the goals, Aguero’s under-lying numbers prove he hasn’t lost any of the hunger of being a top-class goal-scorer even at the age of 31. The striker has averaged 4.2 shots per game, but has shown a more selfless side too by providing 1.7 key passes per match.
Coming up against the 6 foot 5 Mina however, there is a feeling the Argentine may have to up his 0.8 dribbles per game considerably in order to fully dominate the Colombian.

Mina’s physical attributes mark him out as an intimidating beast, and it’s been no surprise to see him win 4.3 aerial duels per game. But against City on Saturday, the 25-year-old is unlikely to be involved in such a battle. He will have to be fleet of foot and not get exposed one on one against his South American counterpart.
If Guardiola’s main forward can isolate the Colombia international however, City will surely find it easy pickings for another three points in the Premier League.
