da bet7k: It was a much-changed side that Jurgen Klopp selected against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.
da bet esporte: Overall, the 52-year-old brought no less than nine fresh faces into his side following the Reds’ 2-0 win against Sheffield United on January 2nd. Included in the first XI were youngsters such as Nathaniel Phillips, Neco Williams, Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones.
That quarter provided plenty of positives. The former two, for example, were part of a back four that didn’t concede, whilst Elliott provided three key passes from his position on the wing.
It was 18-year-old Jones that stood out, though. His goal was the only one of the match, and what a strike it was, with the ball curling into the top corner off the woodwork from around 25 yards out. That moment in particular will grab the headlines, but it was just one facet of an overall positive display.
The Liverpudlian played the entirety of the 90 minutes, and looked composed throughout. He managed to land 88% of all of his attempted passes. Of the Anfield men who started, he led the way in that respect. In terms of key passes, he made three, which was as many as Elliott and Divock Origi. No-one else from either side managed as many.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
He also won two of the five ground duels he contested and one of the two aerial ones as well – there is still room for improvement there, of course, but it shows that even though he is a teenager, he was not outmuscled by what was effectively a full-strength Toffees outfit that had won two of their previous three matches since new boss Carlo Ancelotti took over.
The competition for places for Liverpool is fierce – you would expect nothing less from a side that is European champions and lead the Premier League by no less than 13 points whilst also possessing a game in hand. Considering their strength, Jones would usually be penned in as one for the future. This is a teenager who is clearly already too good for the development sides – he has 13 goals in 16 games at that level this term after all – and displays like the one against the Toffees show that he already has what it takes to be a valuable member of Klopp’s first-team squad.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has already insinuated that little to no business will be completed by the league leaders during the January transfer window. Even if he does decide he needs to dip his hand into the winter madness, though, Jones’ left-wing position is now unlikely to be an area which is targeted.
In other news, Klopp heaps praise on this man against Everton.
